Cancel scheduled disk check windows
Checking disk could be a really time-consuming task. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator in Windows. Type in the following command and press Enter. If a dirty flag is set on your drive, the system will force an automatic disk check at the next reboot. Try manually running ChkDsk to check your drive for errors. It will immediately tell you if there are problems with your drive. If it says there are errors then run the offered repair scan. The hard drive manufacturer will have free diagnostic software that is bootable, or that may even run from within Windows, that will thoroughly check the condition of your hard drive.
Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. I stronly agree with Linney. This is happening because something is wrong and the disk is being flagged by the file manager at boot. Make sure your files are backed up on external media immediately. Then do the following. Chkdsk will say it must be run at startup and ask if you want the command to run the next time the computer is started.
Type "Y" and hit Enter. Do a restart. This flavor of chkdsk will take quite a while to complete because it is thoroughly checking and repairing errors in the file system. If the problem persists, use Device Manager to determine the manufacturer of the hard disk and download the disk diagnostic tool from the disk manufacturer's website.
Follow the instructions to run it. If the disk is reported as going bad, contact the manufacturer of the computer if the computer is still in warranty. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

For instance, if you run the chkdsk command on a system drive that is being used to run the Windows OS, it will schedule a disk check to run at the next reboot. Windows might also force an automatic disk check when your computer shuts down unexpectedly.
Checking disk could be a really time-consuming task. Open a Command Prompt as an administrator in Windows. In the registry editor, go to the following location. If you are using Windows 10, simply copy and paste the below path in the address bar and press Enter.
As you can see, there are two ways to stop chkdsk scheduled operation at boot in Windows. Both methods are pretty easy to follow. So, follow the one you are comfortable with. Personally, I recommend the command-line method as all you have to do is execute a single line command.
