The internet was working for two days, and then it just stopped. In reply to Jesse and Roxy's post on September 12, One more update. I did everything recommended in this thread up, and realized the problem is not with the network. I connected directly to the modem, restarted the computer and modem, obviously no internet. So I went into control panel, and the computer says it is connected to the internet. It won't let me diagnose anything if the computer thinks there is a connection.

I don't want her to have to take it in somewhere to pay money and find out it is a simple setting that reconfigured when the computer crashed. I must say, I have a lot of respect for the people that work on and maintain windows machines everyday, these things are a pain to even figure out what is wrong, let alone fix a problem. So staicaly placing the ip add and dns servers seemed to do the trick. Your firmware upgrade might accept these protocols and avoid the issues with vista not accepting the dhcp packets request. You could leave it this way it will work just fine.

But once i got online i then i found the firmware upgrade for my Linksys router downloaded it and then installed it and then went back to put all nics wireless and wired back to full DHCP and everything is running fine In reply to Networkingisapain in vista's post on November 6, My vista machine woke up one day from hibernation and decided it could no longer identify my wired network.

I've tried a number of other fixes, including modifying my registry, and they do not work. How can I get in to see the DNS servers I'm hooked up to a Motorola don't know exactly what model, I'm not home at the moment to look cable modem? Will I have to borrow someone else's computer and hook it up to see this? I've tried everything in this thread and am still having this issue. I am going to try and back out SP2 and see what happens. I have AVG software running too. This recently happened to me, also on Vista. I run two computers the other Windows 10 off of the same router. Windows 10 computer was averaging between 60 and 70 Mbps on router 99 in one test direct to modem ; Windows Vista machine was running between roughly 7.

After mainly struggles, thought it was a router problem, but it was not! The answer in my case was that my anti-virus program, AVG, was the culprit. Ask a question. Quick access. More specifically, it was the Phishing Filter. I just had to go back into McAfee to disable the annoying messages that I wasn't fully protected. Hope this helps. Tuesday, March 20, PM. If other people are fixing the problem under vista the Mafee prob then it musent be vista. It seems to only be slow on peer to peer and youtube for me.

Thursday, April 5, PM. One of the first things I did was uninstall McAffe but my connection is so slow, it times out very often. My PC running XP on the same network flies. I'll try the netsh thing tonight and this link might help too?

I have run the system with all add-ins disabled, the microsoft Live OneCare disabled, windows defender disabled, etc.

I have literally tried everything, disabled the phising filter, made sure my computers updates were updated and still internet problems!

I downloaded Mozilla Firefox latest edition and that seemed to fix the problem for a while but now both IE7 and Firefox are all running like the computer is an old Tandy POS. What is the cause and solution? It happens no matter which of the hundred ways I have connected to the internet, it's not the ISP, It's not the wireless, it's got to be Vista.

I use to download at kps, now 32 and lower. It's not right!! I use to have McAfee, I uninstalled it because that's what the Vista advisor told me to do.
